Piercing The Veil
Terror gripped me like a vice. The monster from my nightmare was real. He wasn’t a figment of my imagination. He existed, and he was standing here, talking to me. It was official: my life was caught up a twisted episode of The Twilight Zone. If only Rod Sterling was here to give me some sage advice about how to deal with this insanity.
I swallowed hard, finding my voice—though it lacked the confidence and authority I needed then. “Who are you? What do you want?”
The monster shook his head with a tsk. “I see Alana has told you nothing about your power and the great destiny that awaits you. Though that does explain part of why it’s been so difficult to track you down all these years and why I had to take such drastic measures to get close to you.” He waved his hand across his face, his appearance morphing first into McCreeperson, dark shades and all, and then into Mark in the suit he’d been wearing the day I nearly ran him down.
My frozen terror turned into a brutal, slashing fear. This thing had been haunting me all this time and he’d done his homework. He knew my family, the people associated with me, and lord only knew what else. Jesus. Forget the Twilight Zone; this had Stephen King written all over it. I shuddered violently. His stories usually involved a lot of blood and gore, and from the looks
of the creature standing before me, things were about to get gory if I didn’t get the hell-out-of-Dodge.
